Thanksgiving is upon us! When I think of thanksgiving what usually first comes to mind is family, delicious turkey and pumpkin pie, and some NFL football. I have to consciously remind myself though of what Thanksgiving is truly about. It's a time set aside to remember all that we have to be thankful for. And thanksgiving is healthy for our soul. A grateful heart leads to a healthy heart.
We see throughout Scripture the importance of giving thanks, especially in the Psalms. Gratitude enlarges our heart, cleanses us from bitterness and despair, helps us to see the truth of all that God has given us, and opens us to worship Him. The Psalms are filled with the encouragement "to give thanks to the Lord (Psalm 7, 9, 28, 30, 33, 57, 92, 97, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 111, 118, 122, 136, 138)!"
Psalm 105 begins by saying, "Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!" And that is what we will be doing this Sunday. We will have a time of sharing our thanks to God for what He has done in our lives over this past year. There will be an open mic time and anybody who would like to share their thanks to God for His deeds in their lives over this past year will be welcome to come up front and share. So please be praying if there is anything that God might be leading you to encourage our people by expressing.
Look forward to being with you on Sunday and I pray you have a great thanksgiving!
Blessings to you,
